The Sleuth Kit (TSK) | Forensic Analysis Tools

The Sleuth Kit is a library and collection of Unix- and Windows-based utilities for extracting data from disk drives and other storage so as to facilitate the forensic analysis of computer systems.

The Sleuth Kit (previously known as TSK) is a collection of UNIX-based command line file and volume system forensic analysis tools.

The file system tools allow you to examine file systems of a suspect computer in a non-intrusive fashion.

Because the tools do not rely on the operating system to process the file systems, deleted and hidden content is shown. A graphical interface to the tools called Autopsy is available.

The collection is open source and protected by the GPL, the CPL and the IPL. The software is under active development and it is supported by a team of developers. The initial development was done by Brian Carrier who based it on The Coroner's Toolkit. It is the official successor platform.
